I'VE SEEN FILMS 2009 KICKS OFF ON SEPT 24 WITH 10 DAYS OF WORLD-CLASS CINEMATOGRAPHY IN MILAN

I'VE SEEN FILMS, founded by international artist Rutger Hauer,

Under the Patronage of the Milano Municipality, the Milano Province,
the Consulate General of the Netherlands, the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland
AGIS Lombarda and the Lombardia Film Commission

kicks off on September 24, with ten days of world-class cinematography in Milan!!

With 231 works from 70 countries, more than 100 premieres, and directors, actors and producers in attendance from all over the world, ‘I’ve Seen Films’ runs through October 3. It will culminate in a Gala Award Evening, aired live by the Microcinema Digital Network via the European Space Agency’s satellite technology, with Rutger Hauer personally awarding the Festival winners, who by this time have become the real protagonists of the Festival, in front of a potential audience of 30,000 people!

The competing short films will battle to win the prestigious ''20th Century Fox H. E.'' Best Short Film Award; this prize also includes free admission to the next ''Rutger Hauer FilmFactory Masterclass''.

This year’s line-up presents many artistic short films by Oscar, BAFTA and Emmy award-winning filmmakers who are attending the Festival and coming from all over the world.

On the morning of October 1, the ‘Festivals, Films and Short Films Promotion’ Masterclass will deal with filmmaker issues related to copyrights, distribution vs. diffusion of their works under the most proper conditions and with the use of new technologies. The speakers will be Rutger Hauer, PierPaolo De Fina, Giancarlo Zappoli, Silvana Molino of Microcinema and other Festival guests. On the morning of October 2, the ‘Where Art and Poetry Meet Film’ Masterclass will be spearheaded by Massimiliano Finazzer Flory, Rutger Hauer, Lech Majewski and Bill Bristow. Both lectures will take place in the suggestive Universita’ Cattolica del Sacro Cuore’s ‘Magna Room Cripta’ in Milano.

A special evening has also been organized for September 29, by 20th Century Fox H.E., that will offer a gift to the Festival winners during the Gala Awards Ceremony. October 2 is also a jam-packed date which includes the Smart Contest Best Short Film awards ceremony and a celebration dedicated to the renowned Polish artist, Lech Majewski, who will be honored with a Career Award assignment that follows the October 1 special screening of his heart-touching ‘The Garden of Earthly Delights’. The Festival’s program also includes special screenings of the 2009 Rutger Hauer FilmFactory shorts, and a European premiere of award-winning writer-director Max Cusimano’s ‘Rhapsody’, praised by Sir Ridley Scott as ‘a refreshingly clever work of sensitivity and insight’.

I’ve Seen Films is the first festival whereby a short film competition is judged by an International Jury formed by so many notable artistic talents and experts of the cinematography sector. The 2009 Jury members are : director and producer Ridley Scott; director and producer Robert Rodriguez; director, composer and producer Lech Majewski; actress Miranda Richardson; director, producer and writer Paul Verhoeven; director and producer Eugenio Cappuccio; photographer, director, producer and writer Anton Corbijn; writer, producer and director Christopher Nolan; producer, director and writer Bill Bristow; film essayist and TV author Daniela Catelli; film festival artistic director and writer Teresa Cavina; film critic, university lecturer and writer Roberto Nepoti, and Rutger Hauer.

The Festival’s venues, all located downtown Milan, are Centre Culturel Français, THECA and Milano Municipality’s Gnomo Milano Cinema. Entrance is free for all screenings.

Since its 2008 inception, I’ve Seen Films has held the distinction of being the first short film festival to screen the authors works in a masterful, HD Digital Cinema quality. This, along with the very special Jury panel, clearly marks a turning point in the international film festival world.
